Studenten Kamer Festival

Today we’ve got good news for all the ones following us from the Netherlands. Next week (precisely on Wednesday 24) the Studenten Kamer Festival will take place in a bunch of Dutch cities, opening student rooms to small audiences to promote young and talented performers who want to show off their skills in music, dance, performance, stand-up comedy and so on. In case you live in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Eindhoven or another of the many locations involved (or you’re just passing by), Stukafest can be a good chance for you to enjoy an unusual and cozy experience while at the same time touring the city and supporting young artists. It definitely looks like a win-win situation.

(Text by Nicola Bozzi)
While browsing Facebook on an iPhone or working via wireless on a train, we tend to forget all those electromagnetic fields and aerial data we exchange compulsively each and every day are a physical matter and not just a platonic projection of our cognitive babble.* Given that we’re all more or less dependent on this stuff, some don’t think it’s necessarily making our life the best possible, and definitely not healthier. This is the premise to the Electrosmog Festival, to take place in Amsterdam (and in many other places) on next March. Read more

Better life”. E ancora, Il Cairo e gli interessanti casi della città dei morti e del garbage village attraverso i contributi del Cospe e di alcuni antropologi. The 2009 programme will offer four days of meetings, talkshows, workshops and live performances with artists, scholars and scientists coming from all over the world. The programme was inspired by the scientist’s forecasts of a 80% of the world population living in “urban contexts” by 2050, and is meant as a laboratory for the future focusing on the city as its most immediate locus for confontation and experimentation. Among the cities, going through an important public and private transformation, under the festival’s magnifying glass are: Medellin, Seoul (2010 design capital), Shanghai (Expo 210), Dubai, Cairo, Milan (Expo 2015), San Paolo, Brasilia, Paris and Tokyo. The program was really long and complete, sometimes maybe too long for each day, but with a great effort from the curators in trying to include all these material between only eight days. That’s why we will focus on the main talks and exhibitions to review here, so you can have an overview about the event. The main topic this year is VISIONS and its objective is to question popular convictions about the use of assorted media in architectural practice. One of the things we found really interesting is that the talks included groups of speakers involved in many disciplines, not only architects but also journalist, writers, philosophers, artists and designers and these make possible to have a holistic approach about each topic. [Read the Italian version of this post]
Beyond Media has been investigating architecture and its relationship with different communicational formats – especially video – for more than a decade now. Taking place from July 6 to July 17, at Florence’s Stazione Leopolda, this year’s edition is titled “Visions” (we already told you about it) as to suggest architecture as a key tool for innovation in future scenarios. Here’s some information from the website:
“BEYOND MEDIA is one of the main events worldwide dedicated to the most current visions on contemporary architecture and on the outcomes of the intense relations which exist between architecture and the media.
