It’s still early to book a flight to Barcelona (you have time until next November), but in case you have what it takes you can already apply as a speaker for the next World Architecture Festival, in the most architecturally vibrant city in Spain. WAF is a festival where architects from all over the world meet, lots of awards are given and companies can also promote their products. Interactivity is one of the key factors the organizers highlight on their website. Read more

Today we’ve got good news for all the ones following us from the Netherlands. Next week (precisely on Wednesday 24) the Studenten Kamer Festival will take place in a bunch of Dutch cities, opening student rooms to small audiences to promote young and talented performers who want to show off their skills in music, dance, performance, stand-up comedy and so on. In case you live in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Eindhoven or another of the many locations involved (or you’re just passing by), Stukafest can be a good chance for you to enjoy an unusual and cozy experience while at the same time touring the city and supporting young artists. It definitely looks like a win-win situation.

While browsing Facebook on an iPhone or working via wireless on a train, we tend to forget all those electromagnetic fields and aerial data we exchange compulsively each and every day are a physical matter and not just a platonic projection of our cognitive babble.* Given that we’re all more or less dependent on this stuff, some don’t think it’s necessarily making our life the best possible, and definitely not healthier. This is the premise to the Electrosmog Festival, to take place in Amsterdam (and in many other places) on next March. Read more

Montréal, Medellin, Buenos Aires, Milano, Parigi, Dubai, Il Cairo, Seoul, Shanghai, Tokyo, Belem, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Sao Paulo, Brasilia. Better life”. Read more

While visiting the much longer Internation Architecture Biennale in Rotterdam, between October 29 and November 1 the city is also offering a very promising film festival also dealing with cities, architecture and urban planning (plus a whole lot of imagery).

Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam features “over 100 movies in just 4 days”, which is enough for the curious architecture fan to have a heart attack. That’s why, if you plan to go, we suggest you check out the program here or here first. Read more

festival della creatività

Florence
Fortezza da Basso
Padiglione delle Nazioni

The 2009 programme will offer four days of meetings, talkshows, workshops and live performances with artists, scholars and scientists coming from all over the world. The programme was inspired by the scientist’s forecasts of a 80% of the world population living in “urban contexts” by 2050, and is meant as a laboratory for the future focusing on the city as its most immediate locus for confontation and experimentation. Among the cities, going through an important public and private transformation, under the festival’s magnifying glass are: Medellin, Seoul (2010 design capital), Shanghai (Expo 210), Dubai, Cairo, Milan (Expo 2015), San Paolo, Brasilia, Paris and Tokyo. The program was really long and complete, sometimes maybe too long for each day, but with a great effort from the curators in trying to include all these material between only eight days. That’s why we will focus on the main talks and exhibitions to review here, so you can have an overview about the event. The main topic this year is VISIONS and its objective is to question popular convictions about the use of assorted media in architectural practice. One of the things we found really interesting is that the talks included groups of speakers involved in many disciplines, not only architects but also journalist, writers, philosophers, artists and designers and these make possible to have a holistic approach about each topic. WebBeyond Media has been investigating architecture and its relationship with different communicational formats – especially video – for more than a decade now. Taking place from July 6 to July 17, at Florence’s Stazione Leopolda, this year’s edition is titled “Visions” (we already told you about it) as to suggest architecture as a key tool for innovation in future scenarios. Here’s some information from the website:

BEYOND MEDIA is one of the main events worldwide dedicated to the most current visions on contemporary architecture and on the outcomes of the intense relations which exist between architecture and the media.
